About the artist:

Paula Harmon is an artist living in the small, historic, Gulf Coast city of Apalachicola.  She works in mixed media incorporating and drawing on her strong background in stained glass.

Paula started working with architectural glass in Tallahassee, producing many stained and etched glass pieces for both private homes and public and government buildings.  She moved to Apalachicola in 1986 where she set up shop in a small cottage home in the Historic District, later adding a studio in her backyard.

For the past few years her artwork has focused on transparent glass mosaics, incorporating the technique of reverse painting on glass which has now led to mixed media assemblage and collage.  She is currently exploring the wonderful world of encaustic painting with hot wax and beginning to incorporate that medium into her mixed media assemblages as well.

Paula shares her life here in Apalachicola with partner, Bill, and two highly amusing Cairn Terriers,  "Bijoux" and "Lucy", who are her inspiration for Oyster Town Dog Designs!  She is currently working on a line of cards featuring some of Apalachicola's furry characters…you may soon see one you know!  She will also take on commissioned work and will custom paint your favorite friend as a portrait or a feature in a mixed media work.
